It seems like a long time ago (ok, it is a long time ago…), but back in 1997 and at the start of the 1998 season, Jermaine Lewis played some very solid football for the Ravens, flashing first-class skills and making fantasy players look forward to even bigger things to come. But after suffering through injuries, he never came back to have any significant impact at WR for Baltimore (although he was still one of the better punt returners in the game). He now plays for the expansion Texans, starting alongside ex-Packer Corey Bradford after beating out Jabar Gaffney.
Can we expect a rejuvenated Lewis this season? We’re cautiously optimistic. He has looked good in camp, and with his speed he can put up decent numbers as Houston will have to play from behind all year. Lewis obviously won’t join the elite WRs, but he should provide you with satisfactory production considering he will be available in the late rounds, and probably even on the wire following many drafts. Keep an eye on him and don’t hesitate to pick him up, especially if he continues his good work in Houston. It seems as if a change of scenery was just what the doctor ordered for Lewis.
