Week 3
Games through September 23

By Dan Spazierer

START

QB:

Jeff Garcia, SF: Garcia has had two sub-par performances and people are starting to question him and the 49ers offense. This may be the week to prove they still can light up the board. And the Skins are the right team to be coming to town. Start Garcia, he will find his form in this one.

Michale Vick, Atl: He was on our SIT list last week, but proved us somewhat wrong. Although his numbers weren’t great, he came through with a solid performance against a great Bears defense. Against the perennially soft Bengals defense, he will put up huge numbers.

RB:

Rondell Mealey, GB: It may just be for one week, but that one could pay great dividends. With Green almost surely out for this week’s game, Mealy will get the nod against the hapless Lions. If he is available grab him and start him; you won’t be disappointed!

Tiki Barber, NYG: Barber is red hot right now and faces a more than suspect Seahawks run defense. Together with a clicking passing game, Tiki will find a lot of holes on Sunday, so expect him to post great stats!

WR:

Brian Finneran, Atl: He is the best WR on the Falcons team right now. Atlanta will score a lot of points at home against Cincinatti, and Finneran will do his part. Expect 100 yds and at least 1 score.

Donald Driver, GB: The Green Bay defense isn’t exactly what you need to win championships, but the offense still plays great football. Driver has emerged as a solid receiver opposite Terry Glenn and against the lowly Lions, everyone will get a piece of the cake. So will Driver, so put him in!

TE/K/D:

Jeremy Shockey, TE, NYG: He has played very well for the Giants recently, and it will not be any different this week. He is one of the top TEs right now, and will get a lot of looks against the Seahawks.

Mike Hollis, K, Buf: Had a great week against the Vikings last week, and will get a lot of chances at Denver this week. He has the strong leg, and combined with Denver’s thin air, he will get a lot of calls, even from far away.

Falcons: They play Cincinnati this week. Need we say anything else? Unless the Bengals put together a serious passing game, the opponents will stack the line against Dillon, and that’s exactly what the Falcons will do. Combined with their pass rush, it will be a long day for the Bengals again.

BENCH

QB:

Kurt Warner, StL: Kurt Warner on the SIT list? Well, it is still a tough call, but if you have other options such as Vick, Brees or even Fiedler this week, you should consider benching Warner. Facing a tough Tampa defense down in Florida, Warner might be pressured all Monday night, and that’s exactly what caused the Rams’ problems so far this season. As long as the offensive line cant give Warner time to throw, he wont be as effective as usual.

Quincy Carter, Dal: He may have had a solid game against the Titans last week, but this week he faces an Eagles defense which held Washington to 119 yds passing. So do yourself a favour, and look somewhere else.

RB:

Michael Pittman, TB: The Rams are 0-2 and haven’t exactly played well, but they still managed one thing – they kept opposing RBs quiet. Combined with Pittman sharing carries with Alstott this means there won’t be much fantasy value here this week.

Thomas Jones, Ari: He had a great game last week against a suspect Seattle run defense, but expect his success to be a short one. The Chargers’ front four is one of the best in the league, so Jones will come back down to earth.

WR:

Az-Zahir Hakim, Det: Detroit may face a questionable Packers defense, but as long as they haven’t solved the problems on their own offense, we cant recommend any of the Lions offense players. The risk is just too high…

Donte Stallworth, NO: This kid has managed to impress just about everyone. He started well and may have a great season, but the Saints face a tough assignment in the Bears defense this week. Expect Stallworth’s production to go down in this defense battle.

TE/K/D:

Freddie Jones, TE, Ari: Was one of the top 5 TEs the last years, but still has to learn the Cardinals offense. Although he will be highly motivated playing against his old team, we recommend benching Jones until he shows he’ll play a significant role in Arizona’s passing game.

Doug Brien and Gary Anderson, Min, K: Although Brien was one of the better fantasy kickers in the first two weeks (unless your league scores negative points for missed PATs), he lost part of his kicking duties to Gary Anderson after last week’s disaster. Until we know how the kicking duties really will be split, better keep both Vikings kickers on your bench.

Buffalo:
The Bills unit gave up a lot of yards, but still provided good fantasy value so far. We see this a little differently this week… They play at Denver, which hasn’t made many mistakes recently, so if you have other options, take your chances elsewhere.
