Did a black cat cross the path of St. Louis’ running backs? It’s certainly starting to look that way. First Marshall Faulk was sidelined with a broken hand, and now backup Lamar Gordon suffered an ankle sprain, leaving third-stringer Arlen Harris to carry the ball for the Rams.
And Harris, who joined the Rams as an undrafted free agent, filled in admirably, rushing for 85 yards and a score on 18 carries against the Packers in relief duty. This week, he most likely will get the start against Pittsburgh.
Admittedly, facing the Steelers, who are allowing a mere 90.8 yards on the ground per game (8th in the league) isn’t an ideal situation for Harris. Nonetheless, with RB talent thin, he might make a good fill-in this week, particularly if he also plays a role in the passing game.
Don’t look for much longterm value from Harris, but this week, he’s worth a look. (Just make sure he actually does get the start before submitting your final lineup – there’s a slim chance that Gordon or even Faulk will be available.)
