All right, so Dane Looker didn’t exactly post monster numbers when given the chance to start in place of Isaac Bruce. Looker seemed more like an on-looker for much of the game, finishing with just three receptions for only 17 yards and disappointing many fantasy owners who had inserted him into their lineups at the last minute.
So why, if you’re still playing in week 17, should you let Dane Looker anywhere near your starting lineup? For one thing, if you need to replace Bruce or another receiver likely to see limited action in games that won’t affect the playoff picture, there may not be any better options available…
There may, however, be reason to be somewhat optimistic about the Rams rookie this week. St. Louis has clinched home field advantage in the NFC, and may rest Torry Holt for parts of the game, resulting in more opportunities for Looker. Additionally, Detroit’s pass defense is dismal: only Atlanta and Houston have allowed opponents to throw for more yardage this season.
Clearly, Looker, who has never gained more than 50 yards in a game, is a risk, but risks are what week 17 is all about.
