START
QB:
Joey Harrington, Det: After a horrible performance last week against Minnesota, Harrington is a very risky play on Thursday. But the Packers defense has trouble stopping the pass at times, and if Detroit plays from behind in the second half, this could mean opportunities for Joey. Definitely a gamble, but worth a look for teams struggling at QB.
Others to start on Thursday:
Brett Favre, GB, TB
RB:
Ahman Green, GB: He is the only running back we think its worth starting on Thursday, but he could post huge stats. Green Bay should rely on Green most to carry the load, and he could tear apart the Lions defense.
WR:
Az-Zahir Hakim, Det: Hakim, astoinishingly, has been something approaching reliable in the last two games. Yes, two solid outings don’t constitute a streak, but he may make it three in a row if Harrington is foreced to throw the ball a lot. Hakim is still a gamble, but if you are thin at WR, you might consider taking the risk and starting him on Thanksgiving.
Others to start on Thursday:
Chris Chambers, Mia
Donald Driver, GB
BENCH
QB:
Any Miami quarterback: Whoever gets the starting nod for Miami could have a tough day in Dallas. The Cowboys are, after all, first in the league against the pass… Furthermore, it might be a low scoring T-Day game, so leaving any of your Miami QBs on the bench seems like the safe call. You do have alternatives, don’t you?
RB:
Troy Hambrick, Dal: Hambrick has done nothing in the last weeks to convince us that he is a true fantasy starter. He has been useful against weaker defenses, but has also struggled against the better units. He has also lost carries recently, so don’t start him unless you are a bit desparate.
WR:
Robert Ferguson, GB: It’s tough to guess who will get the majority of looks in Green Bay right now, since Brett Favre continues to spread the ball a lot. Ferguson, Walker and even Driver have been awfully inconsistent this season. Driver is the only one we think might be worth starting, as he remains a possession receiver, but playing Ferguson has to be considered a huge gamble.
Happy Thanksgiving and good luck in this week’s early games; please see here for complete Start and Sit lists for this weekend’s matchups.
Fantasy Football Cafe’s Start & Sit lists are suggestions intended to give fantasy football players an edge in their weekly matchups. Savvy owners will see these lists not as an absolute ranking, but as an indication of possible outcomes of a given week, and use them together with their own opinions and hunches to field the lineup that will give their team the greatest odds of winning.
