Week 2

By Charles Budd & Steve Maluk

This is a computerized ranking system created by Charles Budd and Steve Maluk (known in the Forums as Buckychudd and Wesley Walker). Factors taken into account include past performance of players and opposing defenses. Players listed as “out” or “doubtful” are not included.

Given the fact only one week of the season has been played, week 1 performances will perhaps be weighted more heavily than is ideal. Be aware of this and lower your expectations for players such as Brandon Stokely. Likewise, rookies like Larry Fitzgerald who have never scored in the NFL will be undervalued in terms of touchdown probability – consider this as well when setting your lineup.

Point projections are based on the following scoring system: 1 point per 25 yards passing or 10 yards rushing/receiving; 6 points per TD; -1 per fumble; -2 per interception thrown.

QB  RB  WR  TE

QB: Las Vegas expects a high-scoring game in Philly this weekend. This makes Daunte Culpepper and, to a lesser extent, Donovan McNabb very good starts. Tom Brady’s week 2 numbers may not be as sweet as his week 1 performance, but don’t be fooled by his probable status – he will start and he should tear Arizona apart. Temper high hopes for Carson Palmer this week, however, against a Miami defense that’s its team’s only hope.

RB: Chances are better than 50/50 that Shaun Alexander plays this weekend. Chances are much better than 50/50 that Travis Henry’s week 2 is better than his week 1, and that Quentin Griffin’s isn’t as good. Also look for Deuce McAllister to bounce back this week.

WR: Two men look like virtual locks to get into the endzone this week. Not surprisingly, those men are named Terrell and Randy. If week 1 was any indication of how the Giants’ and Colts’ secondaries will fare this year, Laveranues Coles and Derrick Mason could reap immediate benefits.

TE: It will be interesting to see whether Boo Williams gets more looks for New Orleans this week. For now, Ernie Conwell looks like the better bet there. If you subscribe to the theory that bad offenses produce lucrative fantasy tight ends, then Randy McMichael and Eric Johnson should be two of the best this week.
