Week 8

By Charles Budd & Steve Maluk

This is a computerized ranking system created by Charles Budd and Steve Maluk (known in the Forums as Buckychudd and Wesley Walker). Factors taken into account include past performance of players and opposing defenses. Players listed as “out” or “doubtful” are not included.

Point projections are based on the following scoring system: 1 point per 25 yards passing or 10 yards rushing/receiving; 6 points per TD; -1 per fumble; -2 per interception thrown.

QB  RB  WR  TE

QUARTERBACK
The Houston Texans are third in the NFL in fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks. Byron Leftwich could exploit this matchup and put up some great numbers this week if he can avoid being intercepted. The Colts-Chiefs game should be a shootout. Peyton Manning (as always) and Trent Green are very solid fantasy starts.

RUNNING BACK
In yardage-heavy leagues, Tiki Barber is the best running back going at the moment. He leads the NFL in receiving yards among RB, and has yet to turn the ball over. Priest Holmes scored four touchdowns in the first half of last Sunday’s game. Derrick Blaylock scored four more upon entering the game after Priest turned an ankle. The moral of the story is: if you’re a Priest owner, why not become a Blaylock owner too? And again, the Indy game should be a touchdown-fest for any Chief.

WIDE RECEIVER
Look for Jimmy Smith to post very solid numbers against a lackluster Texans secondary. Smith is among the league leaders in both targets (passes thrown to) and yards per catch. Hines Ward simply has the best hands in football. Even against the though Patriots defense, he should get his yards.

TIGHT END
Eric Johnson and Antonio Gates appear to be the favorite targets of their respective quarterbacks. On top of that, Gates has more balls thrown to him inside the opponent’s 20-yard line than any tight end other than Daniel Graham. As with Graham, this has led to impressive fantasy production.
