Once again, the focus in the overwhelming majority of this year’s drafts in on running backs. And like last year, the list of viable starters will most likely be exhausted very early, leaving owners searching for backups who might produce at some point of the season.
But which backup RB to choose? Clearly, there are many options, but DeShaun Foster might be among the best. Although he only averaged 3.8 yards per carry last season, gaining 429 yards in 113 attempts in the regular season, Foster gained valuable experience and proved himself capable of filling in for Stephen Davis should the need arise. In the playoffs, the former second-round pick out of UCLA added another 196 yards and two scores. His pass-catching ability is also a definite fantasy plus.
Backup RBs are always a gamble, but with a solid first year under his belt, the confidence of his coaching staff, and a starter entering his 30s, DeShaun Foster should be one of the better options available.
