Sleeper Watch

With Barrett Green placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL, Nick Greisen will see extensive action at linebacker for the New York Giants in the final two weeks of the season. And if your IDP team could use a playoff boost or injury replacement, Greisen might be just what the doctor ordered.

Given the chance to start on the weak side in last week’s game against Pittsburgh, Greisen made the most of his opportunity. The third-year pro, who entered the season with just ten career solo tackles, came through with the best performance of his career, recording 13 tackles, two assists, and his first sack of the season.

As a starter this year, Greisen has averaged 6.4 tackles per game, compared with just 2.8 when coming off the bench. That’s not enough to rank him among the league’s elite linebackers, of course, but it does make him a viable option in deep IDP formats. Add him to your squad if you need a last-minute fill-in, and keep an eye on him in his two remaining games in Cincinnati and at home against Dallas. If he continues to impress, he may well be a full-time starter next year, and might be worth nabbing as a late-round sleeper.
