Having apparently decided to cut bait on Troy Hambrick, the Tuna needs a runningback to improve Dallas’ floundering offense. Perched at pick #22, the Cowboys just might catch a big one in the depths of round one of the NFL draft if Kevin Jones hasn’t been landed yet.
Buoyed by a 1647-yard season at Virginia Tech where he played like a shark among minnows, Jones has been making plenty of waves among scouts. There’s nothing fishy about his skills: Jones can run off tackle, catch passes in the flats, and provides a whale of an effort every time the snapper hikes the ball. His presence will also lure defenders into focusing solely on the run, opening up room for hook or fly patterns.
No matter which team reels him in, if you’ve been casting about for a young RB on the rise, Kevin Jones looks like a keeper you won’t want to toss back. Holy mackerel, this kid is good!
