He may be behind both Darrell Jackson and Bobby Engram on Seattle’s wide receiver depth chart. He might not even see as many looks as tight end Jerramy Stavens. Yet so far this season, Joe Jurevicius has caught as many touchdown passes as those three combined.
After opening the season by scoring a TD in a strong three-catch, 64-yard effort against a tenacious Jacksonville defense, Jurevicius only hauled in one pass in last week’s tilt with the Falcons. He made it count, however, again finding the end zone to open the scoring in a game the Seahawks would go on to win, 21-18.
By notching his second TD, Jurevicius has already matched the total he posted in both 2003 and 2004. If the first two games are any indication, he’ll add to that mark soon. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has looked very comfortable throwing to his third receiver once the Seahawks reach their opponents’ half of the field, and Jurevicius should continue to receive plenty of looks when it counts most.
Don’t expect Jurevicius to provide you with lofty yardage totals or carry your team to a title, but with bye weeks starting to make their presence felt, he’s well worth considering if you need a fill-in.
