Is Cadillac Williams human after all? After launching his NFL career with 148, 128, and 158-yard rushing performances that have Buccaneers fans already thinking about the postseason, the rookie looked mortal in this week’s game against Detroit. In 11 carries, Williams managed to gain just 13 yards on the ground. To make matters worse, Williams was forced to make an early exit when he suffered a hamstring strain. His sprained foot also continues to be cause for concern.
Williams is currently expected to be good to go next Sunday when the undefeated Bucs head to New York to take on the Jets, but if injuries force him to the sidelines, veteran Michael Pittman is ready to step in and carry the rock.
Filling in for the injured Williams, Pittman gained 30 yards on five carries last week, and also added six receptions for 96 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown grab that tied the game at ten.
Tampa Bay faces several very tough run defenses in the weeks to come. Miami, Carolina, Washington, Atlanta, and Chicago are all on the Buccaneers’ schedule between now and the end of November, and whoever starts at running back for Tampa Bay will have his work cut out for him. Nonetheless, Pittman offers more upside at this point than most other backup RBs. If he’s available in your league and you have a free roster spot, consider picking him up. If you own Cadillac Williams, adding Pittman is a must.
