If you followed Daniel Gilford’s advice before last week’s games and added Najeh Davenport to your roster – congratulations! You were rewarded with two touchdowns on Sunday as the Packers trounced the Saints at Lambeau, 52-3. Unfortunately, that’s all the production you’re going to get from Davenport this season: Davenport broke his right ankle as the first half wound down and is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season.
Ahman Green, whose absence opened the door for Davenport, is expected to return to action following Green Bay’s week 6 bye, but if Green isn’t to go, Tony Fisher will step in.
Fisher is about as far from a sure thing as you can get. His 19 yards on seven carries (for an average of 2.7 yards per carry) as Davenport’s replacement against New Orleans were hardly impressive, and the Packers will do everything they can to get Green back on the field sooner rather than later. Yet if Fisher does wind up starting, the potential reward could be substantial: in week 8, the Packers face the Vikings, who have allowed an NFL-high 178 rushing yards per game so far this season.
Keep an eye on updates of Ahman Green’s status coming out of Green Bay. If that outlook starts looking cloudy, consider taking a chance on Tony Fisher.
