Week 13’s Studs and Duds

By Roy Daniel

Which players were on fire last week? Who was as cold as Lambeau Field in the dead of winter? Let’s take a look back at the fantasy football week that was with a rundown of the five best passers, rushers, and receivers, as well as five of each who were utter disappointments.

STUDS

PASSERSAtt/CompYardsTDInt
Ben Roethlisberger, Pitt29/4138633
The Steelers are fighting for a playoff spot and I expect Roth to step it up, even against a tough Chicago D.
Carson Palmer, Cin22/3827730
You cannot go wrong starting Palmer next week, even if he is going against a decent Cleveland passing D.
Brad Johnson, Min17/2325620
The Vikings cannot expect great things from their running game and will have to win by passing the ball. Johnson should rack up the yards and TD’s against a non-existent Rams D.
Sage Rosenfels, Mia22/3727221
Do not expect similar numbers next week, it will be hard to do from the bench. It looks like Frerotte will start next Sunday.
J.P. Losman, Buf13/2622431
Looks like he has solidified the starting job, for now. He should be able to throw at will next week against an injury riddled NE D.

RUSHERSAttYardsTDRecRec YardsRec TD
Larry Johnson, KC301402290
So I was wrong last week, Johnson had a very solid day. So, even with a tough matchup, he WILL post similar numbers next week. He has to, KC is fighting for a playoff spot.
DeShaun Foster, Car2413113491
Well, Dave hit the nail on the head reporting that Foster would be a solid start. The Bucs shut them down their last meeting, but they did allow 2 rushing TD’s. I expect Foster to get the TD’s as well as the yards next week.
Clinton Portis, Wash271362110
Portis has come on strong during the second half of the season. This will continue against Arizona who have had trouble stopping the run.
Rudi Johnson, Cin21982150
Johnson had another solid day on the ground. Since Cleveland could not stop my 2 month old son, expect Johnson to have a monster game.
Dominick Davis, Hou2915503160
This is reminiscent of Tiki Barber, monster yards and no TD’s, what gives? I would not expect similar numbers Tennessee should be able to hold their own on the defensive side.

RECEIVERSRecYardsTD
Chris Chambers, Mia152381
238 yards vs a tough Bills D, who saw that coming? Since he is the only WR target, he should continue to get looks against a weak San Diego D.
Koren Robinson, Min41481
Looks like Robinson and Johnson are clicking pretty well. Things are looking good on Sunday as well against a Rams D who will let anyone score on them.
Lee Evans, Buf51173
Wow!! Where did Evans come from? Too bad it still was not enough to beat the Dolphins. I think he will have a decent day, but do not look for a repeat performance against the Patriots. I look for Losman to spread the ball around this week.
Anquan Boldin, Ari111561
Boldin is one of the beneficiaries of a non-existent running game. I expect for Fitzgerald to replace Boldin on this list next week.
Hines Ward, Pitt91352
The Steelers are fighting for their playoff lives and Ward should see a lot of looks from Big Ben, even against a tough Chicago D.

DUDS

PASSERSAtt/CompYardsTDInt
Aaron Brooks, NO18/3421504
Ouch! It is really hard to win games while throwing 4 interceptions. Will he have similar stats? I think it is safe to say, yes!
Kyle Orton, Chi6/176801
Looks like Chicago can win without their offense. In order for them to win this week against Pitt, their offense will need to show up. Unfortunately, I do not think that Orton can get it done against Pitt.
Michael Vick, Atl17/3517102
If Vick cannot have a solid passing day against a very weak Saints D, I do not expect him to be a very good start the rest of the year.
Eli Manning, NYG12/3115202
Eli had a tough matchup with Dallas, but he should overcome those disappointing stats and come through this week against the Eagles.
Jeff Garcia, Det17/3512601
Does not look like Garcia is the answer in Detroit. If he starts against Green Bay, I expect to see him right here next week.

RUSHERSAttYardsTDRecRec YardsRec TD
Steven Jackson, SL112404180
Should be able to break out of this slump against a weak Minnesota run D.
Curtis Martin, NYJ152904260
I would not trust him next week, even with Oakland’s problems stopping the run.
Jamal Lewis, Bal81703230
Once again, Lewis has trouble running the ball. Who saw this coming? Do not expect his stats to be better than last week against a tough Denver D.
Chris Brown,Tenn11320160
Brown has a better matchup against a weak Houston D, so he should produce better stats.
Brian Westbrook, Phi91705380
This is the last time you will see Westbrook on this list since he is gone for the season.

RECEIVERSRecYardsTD
Plaxico Burress, NYG4470
I expected better stats, but he should rebound against the Eagles.
Keyshawn Johnson, Dal2160
The way Bledsoe has been playing, I do not expect Johnson to put up great stats, but he should have a better day next week against KC.
Drew Bennett, Tenn6370
I figured he would be targeted more. He is questionable with a bum knee, so he more than likely will not see a great deal of playing time, if any.
Joe Horn, NO2400
Even with Brooks at QB, he usually plays better than this. I would expect similar numbers since Brooks has been playing for the opposing team lately.
Kevin Curtis, SL260
Looks like he is officially out of the mix. He will get a catch or two here and there, but he will not produce like he did earlier in the season.
