Week 14’s Studs and Duds

By Roy Daniel

Which players were on fire last week? Who was as cold as Lambeau Field in the dead of winter? Let’s take a look back at the fantasy football week that was with a rundown of the five best passers, rushers, and receivers, as well as five of each who were utter disappointments.

STUDS

PASSERSAtt/CompYardsTDInt
Tom Brady, NE29/3832922
Brady will not have a repeat performance against a stingy Tampa Bay D.
Trent Green, KC20/3234010
The Giants will not be able to stop Green this week. His team needs a win and the G-men have problems stopping the pass.
Drew Bledsoe, Dal27/3433230
Bledsoe has been too inconsistent lately and even though Dallas needs a win, do not look for an encore of last week’s effort.
Peyton Manning, Ind24/3632420
Peyton has a great matchup, and I think he will do even better this week against a weak Chargers pass D.
Matt Hasselbeck, Sea21/2522640
Hass did not have great yardage, but you have to like the number of passing TDs. I do not look for the game with the Eagles to be close, so I think Alexander will steal the show from Hass this week.

RUSHERSAttYardsTDRecRec YardsRec TD
Larry Johnson, KC2614333280
LJ had another great game on the ground. He will have a good, not great game against a pretty good Giants run D.
Jerome Bettis, Pitt171012000
Does this performance signify that the Bus is back? Barring any injuries, I would say: maybe. Let’s give him another week and see what he can do against the Vikings.
Cadilac Williams, TB291122240
I think Caddy will have his hands full against the Patriots. The New England defense is getting healthy, and they have the ability to stop the Cadilac.
Ryan Moats, Phi111142000
Who is this guy and where did he come from? Who cares – he had 114/2 against a pretty good Giants run D. Can he do it again against the Rams? I think so: who can’t run on the Rams?
Samkon Gado, GB291711190
I think Sherman should call Gado a legitimate NFL RB now. The way Brett Favre has been playing, Gado is all the Packers have. He may not have as many yards this week, but he will be the deciding factor against the Ravens.

RECEIVERSRecYardsTD
Chris Chambers, Mia81212
Well, Chambers is back here again. Didn’t someone say something about his lack of consistency? We will see if he can do it again against a very tough Jets pass D.
Terry Glenn, Dal61381
After a couple weeks’ hiatus, Glenn returned to the lineup. However, I do not like his chances this week against a stingy Redskins pass D.
Marvin Harrison, Ind61372
See Manning, Peyton.
Anquan Boldin, Ari91140
Boldin is one of the beneficiaries of a non-existent Arizona running game. I expect Boldin to have an even better game against the Texans.
Antonio Gates, SD131231
It looks like the injury is healed and Gates is back at 100%. He should be a lock for another good game, but will not repeat last week’s performance.

DUDS

PASSERSAtt/CompYardsTDInt
Ryan Fitzpatrick, SL26/4523505
He has had one good game and then dropped off the map. The Eagles D is better than advertised, so do not expect much out of Fitz.
J.P. Losman, Buf10/2718113
Although the Broncos have a suspect pass D, with Losman’s injury, do not expect much, if anything.
Mark Brunell, Was18/2812203
It seems Brunell is getting worse and worse. I expect similar stats against a tough Dallas D.
Brett Favre, GB21/317001
Even with a tough matchup with the Ravens, he has got to have better stats next week. Then again, Driver is his only real target.
Carson Palmer, Cin13/279311
I did not expect to see Palmer here, but, here he is. Can the Lions shut him down like the Browns did? Absolutely not, expect his name to reside in the Stud section next week.

RUSHERSAttYardsTDRecRec YardsRec TD
Willis McGahee, Buf830150
Very disappointing! He may break the 10-yard barrier this week against a tough Denver run D.
DeShaun Foster, Car14460220
With the Saints next on the schedule, this looks like prime time to blow up and I think he will do just that.
LaMont Jordan, Oak144904300
Even though the Browns cannot stop the run, I would not expect great things unless Collins is back in the lineup.
Ronnie Brown/Ricky Williams, Mia22580000
Okay, these stats are what the Miami RBBC had – together. Even with a good matchup against the Jets, who knows who will be the man, so it is best to sit both of the Miami RBs.
Fred Taylor, Jac10190000
I did not expect a lot out of Taylor, but I did expect better stats than he had. It looks like Jack Del Rio will use the dreaded RBBC against the 49ers so Taylor would be best left on your bench.

RECEIVERSRecYardsTD
Plaxico Burress, NYG2370
Where has he been these past few games? My fault, Tom Coughlin is the head coach! The Chiefs can be thrown on, so I expect his numbers to rise this week.
Chad Johnson, Cin2220
Double coverage is not CJ’s friend. The Lions D is pretty tough, but Johnson will find a way to have a good game.
Donald Driver, GB4320
When Favre throws for just 70 yards, it’s clear that Driver’s numbers to be down as well. When Favre returns to form, so will Driver. I guess the question would be: when will Favre return to form?
Larry Fitzgerald, Ari4230
I did not expect these weak stats. Don’t worry, Fitz will be back strong against a weak Texans D.
Andre Johnson, Hou3270
Will AJ finish the season as he started? Being the only target for David Carr, AJ should step it up against a so-so Cardinals pass D.
