Depending on your league format, some waiver wires may be shut down already. If they are, good luck to you during your playoff run – hopefully your team is adequately stocked for the final push. If your wire is still running, here are a couple of last-minute guys to consider adding to your roster.
WR Pickups (Immediate)
Antonio Bryant (Cle) – Braylon Edwards seemed to be entrenching himself as the #1 WR in Cleveland prior to tearing his ACL on Sunday. With Edwards now lost for the season, look for Bryant to step back into the spotlight for the Browns.
Bobby Engram (Sea) – Engram had a TD catch in the blowout win over the Eagles on Monday night. Darrell Jackson is now back in the fold, which should only serve to help Engram get open a bit easier.
Amani Toomer (NYG) – Toomer had a down week, but has been coming on so strong of late that he is still a valuable pickup at this point if you are hurting at WR.
Darrell Jackson (Sea) – Jackson should be back this weekend, and that offense is really purring right now.
Koren Robinson (Min) – Robinson recorded his first 100-yard receiving game as a Viking on Sunday, much of that coming on an 80-yard TD catch. The team as a whole seems to be playing much better during the last few weeks, and they have a very favorable schedule down the stretch.
WR Pickups (Worth a Look)
Roddy White (Atl) – White is consistently figuring into the mix now.
Mark Clayton (Balt) – Clayton turned in a very nice game in the Ravens’ narrow victory over Houston. Baltimore’s passing game is looking better under Kyle Boller.
Eric Parker (SD) – Parker has quietly put together a nice stretch of games these past few weeks. Few teams and offenses are clicking better than the Chargers right now.
RB Pickups (Immediate)
Marion Barber III (Dal) – No one looked particularly good this past weekend for the Cowboys, but Barber should continue to be in the mix for a lot of touches the rest of the way.
TJ Duckett (Atl) – Duckett was shut down by Carolina, as was the entire Falcons offense. They are a run-first offense, so expect them to try and get back to that by featuring both Warrick Dunn and a healthy Duckett.
Greg Jones (Jax) – If this guy is still floating around on the waiver wire, grab him already. He has done nothing but produce solid outings since Fred Taylor has been hurt. Taylor is still iffy, so Jones may have a few more starts in him.
Chester Taylor (Bal) – Jamal Lewis just isn’t right this year. Once he’s healthy enough, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more and more of Taylor.
Artrose Pinner (Det) – Kevin Jones has struggled to recover from a quad injury. Pinner and Shawn Bryson have both played in his place, but Pinner has been the more versatile and productive of the two. The Lions’ schedule down the stretch is decent, so don’t be bashful about grabbing him.
DeShaun Foster (Car) – The only reason that I list him so low is that he probably has been taken in most leagues. I seemed to notice, however, that he was dropped in many leagues early on in the year. It appears that his time is now. If he is out there, grab him and start him.
Michael Bennett (Min) – As the RB position turns in Minnesota … Mewelde Moore was injured early on Sunday and Bennett took advantage, scoring twice. If Moore isn’t healthy enough to start, Bennett could again draw the starting nod in week 14.
Dominic Rhodes (Ind) – This is still a reach. Let’s see what happens as the Colts come closer to 16-0.
QB Pickups (Immediate)
Brad Johnson (Min) – Johnson had another magnificent game for the Vikings this Sunday. The team has a nice schedule the rest of the way and lots of confidence. He is an every-week starter, especially this week when Minnesota faces St. Louis.
Kyle Boller (Balt) – Boller has been pretty effective since coming back from injury. Baltimore is another team with a soft end of the season schedule.
Kurt Warner (Ari) – Warner has been as solid as they come recently. He went over the 350-yard mark this past weekend. Yes, he throws interceptions, but he more than makes up with it in yards and TDs. He is an every-week starter.
David Garrard (Jax) – Garrard had a very nice game against Cleveland. The lone tough game on the Jaguars’ schedule is Indianapolis on December 11; after that he looks to be gold.
Ryan Fitzpatrick (Stl) – Fitzpatrick struggled against a good scheme defense in Washington this past weekend. He will remain the starter – at least this week – and may be worth a start in Minnesota.
Kicker Pickups (Immediate)
Rob Bironas (Tenn) – Bironas was originally considered a bye-week filler, but has stepped up to become an every-week type of kicker.
TE Pickups (Immediate)
Zachary Hilton (NO) – It was another very good game for Hilton this weekend, even when others didn’t looks so good for the Saints.
Ben Troupe (Ten) – Erron Kinney was injured this week, and Troupe may see big benefits because of that. He turned in a nice game against Indianapolis.
Ben Watson (NE) – Watson continues to come on strong for the Patriots. He now looks to be one of Brady’s more frequent targets.
Defensive Pickups (Immediate)
Denver – It was a rough week for the Broncos, but the schedule gets better starting this weekend against Baltimore.
Tennessee – The Titans took a pummeling against the Colts but should be a decent start the rest of the way.
Best of luck to all that are still in the trophy hunt. Until next year…..
