Pressure! Oh, man I’m not sure I can do this. Week 13 is here. Fantasy leagues across the nation are in the home stretch and playoffs loom large. Suddenly there is no room for speculation, and a sleeper has to have a very legitimate chance of churning out points or the whole season could go down the toilet.
Luckily, Christmas came early – for me anyway. In my Cafe mailbox there were actual recommendations for sleepers this week. I have decided to take this as nothing more than a helping hand from my compadres and not as a critique of my (in)ability to dig up sleepers on my own… surely that was the intention. After doing a little checking, I have to agree; the names that have been slipped to me under the table are pretty smart. So, spending no more time on cow patties and crystal balls in the Sleeper of the Week section of the establishment, let me get straight to business.
If you need a quarterback –
Jay Cutler is where you can look for help. Plummer is out, Cutler is in. There is no reason why he can’t produce for you this week and throughout the rest of the season. Denver has great run support, a wicked defense, and veteran receivers who simply need a guy at the helm who’s able to get them the ball. Cutler displayed outstanding mechanics in the preseason and faces a less than impressive Seattle passing defense Sunday night at home.
If you need a running back –
Joseph Addai? Just kidding. Really, don’t throw things, it’s not nice. My secret pal recommended Sammy Morris. I can see the upside here if Ronnie Brown is truly out of action. Morris is a veteran with decent skills and Harrington’s sudden emergence as a real passing threat should open up the running game. I can also see a downside as Morris is facing a pretty desperate Jacksonville team with a top 5 run defense. Another option (and yes, I thought of this one all by myself) is Oakland’s starting running back Justin Fargas. Admittedly, Oakland has a horrible offense but they are at home this weekend against Houston. Even Fargas should score under such favorable conditions. (For the record, Fargas would have been my straight up Sleeper of the Week this week – now aren’t you doubly glad I have new helpers?)
Thanks for reading and good luck.
KC Chance is seriously considering writing next week’s SOW as a poem set to the tune of The Night Before Christmas. Feel free to tell her what you think, she can be found as latraffic in and around the Cafe.
