Sleeper Watch

By KC Chance

It takes a tribe. Okay, so that’s actually a rip off of some book title regarding how best to raise a child, but it also appears to be the best way to dig up a weekly sleeper. And for the record, I have zero children. I can’t even keep houseplants alive, so I figure little humans are a bit beyond my skill set at the moment. Not to mention, I hear they don’t travel well in the overhead compartment on airplanes, so there you go.

Back to my point, and I do have one. It seems last week’s sleeper article — what? You didn’t read it? Stop, you’re killing me. See the list of names on the right-hand sidebar and get busy. Feel free to PM me kudos when you realize all you have been missing. See that Romo guy up there? Yes, that was me.

Where was I? Last week’s sleeper article — so, my admission to listening to suggestions last week seems to have generated a pretty significant spike in interest by other readers who either A) like me so much they want to help me be the best I can be, or B) think I stink and are sick of my off-the-wall suggestions. I can appreciate both mindsets. As such, based on reader suggestions and my usual tarot card readings, I am going to present a list of possible sleeper running back candidates who may or may not be the kryptonite you require to knock out that red-hot league manager who is about to kick your butts in the first round of the playoffs.

Option No. 1 and my personal favorite for “Sleeper of the Week”: Ciatrick Fason – Chester Taylor is hurt, but how bad is he hurt? Fason will undoubtedly get more carries this week even if he doesn’t start due to Taylor’s bruised ribs. Last week Fason filled in and rushed for an impressive 75 yards and a touchdown against Chicago! Going against Detroit, Fason has huge sleeper potential, especially if Taylor turns out to be a scratch at game time.

Option No. 2: Cedric Houston – 105 yards and two touchdowns last weekend is certainly the kind of weekend that gets a player noticed. Unfortunately, the performance was against Green Bay. Add in the fact that Jets head coach Eric Mangini won’t come out and name an official starter and seems determined to use a running-back-by-committee, and Houston becomes a bit of a risky play. Still, there is excellent potential this week against a poor Buffalo run defense with the Jets on the playoff bubble. Even Mangini has to recognize Houston is his best weapon, and he’ll give him the carries he deserves.

Option No. 3: Jason Wright – Slowing stealing playing time from the disappointing Rueben Droughns, Wright just came off of his best fantasy weekend to-date. Unfortunately, Cleveland is not a huge offensive scoring machine, and they play in Pittsburgh this weekend. Not pretty but better than nothing in a pinch… barely.

Please note: At the time of this writing/posting, all of the above mentioned players were available in 92% or more of average leagues (as researched on ESPN.com and Yahoo.com). If you wait until after dinner Saturday night to go and find these candidates, good luck. Trust me, if I can come up with these players as possible waiver wire gems, the rest of the world is going to figure it out before the weekend. Good luck!

Special thanks to all of those who make up my “tribe” and made recommendations. I’d call you out individually but I know you’re waiting to see your name in lights for when you write your own article.

The Wolverines were robbed but the Rose Bowl now looks to have the making of the game of the year! You can catch up with KC in the Cafe's forums where she posts under the name of latraffic.
