This sleeper recommendation, Kevin Faulk, hinges somewhat on the “questionable” status of New England’s backfield. Sammy Morris and Laurence Maroney (who gets one of my votes for the 2007 fantasy bust award) are both showing up on injury reports. If these two guys can’t go, or even if they are limited, Faulk could conceivably have a huge day running against the league’s worst overall rush defense in Miami.
Faulk, a nine year veteran, should have a field day against the hapless Dolphins. If (or should I say “when”) New England jumps out to an early double-digit lead, the Pats will go to the run and the dink & dunk to get this meaningless game over with. Unfortunately, Faulk has no long term value so this sleeper is basically a “use it once, it’s over” coupon. Even if Morris and Maroney don’t bounce back by week eight, New England faces a much tougher pair of defenses against Washington and then Indy before going into their bye.
