2008 NFL Week 10 Barometer

By Scott Fish

Most teams have played eight games and are halfway done with their seasons. The Titans can’t seem to be stopped and former leaders of the midway point, the Patriots and Colts, aren’t even leading their divisions. To be fair, the Patriots are tied for their division lead in record but would lose the tiebreaker at the moment. The AFC East continues to have three teams in the top 6 of the Cafe’s Barometer, but the NFC South just might be as tough of a division. Where did the teams of that division; the Panthers, Buccaneers, Falcons, and Saints end up in this weeks rankings?

After each week of the NFL season, several active Cafe members get together and rank the 32 NFL teams from first to worst. The Barometer is an average of the rankings submitted by these members. To maintain consistency, the high and low scores have been removed.

“Right now it looks like the only thing that can derail the Titans is if LenDale White accidentally eats Chris Johnson.” – Kilroy
2 (2)upNY Giants2.02222122
“I think New York’s Pass Rush just sacked Jake Delhomme, and they don’t even play until December. Yikes.” – Kilroy
3 (3)upPittsburgh3.23333434
“Their offense may be inconsistent, but the Steelers’ defense is why they are contenders in the AFC.” – steelerfan513
4 (5)upCarolina4.04444543
Carolina is barely leading a very tough division. It’s nice that this week they play a high school JV quality team in the Raiders.
5 (4)upWashington5.45565965
The Redskins got destroyed Monday night by the Steelers and Jason Campbell threw not only his first, but also his second interception of the year. He’ll take the week off to hopefully regroup and forget.
6 (8)upPhiladelphia6.26876357
A friend of mine in Philly told me Celek would be huge if he ever got the chance to start. This was in the preseason before the 2007 season. It looks like he was right, but it sure took long enough.
7 (12)upTampa Bay8.2176591196
The Buccaneers scored with 24 ticks left on the clock and won in overtime to advance to 6-3.
8 (6)upBuffalo9.08711881011
The Bills have lost three of there last four and need to get their running game back on track if they want a chance at the division.
9 (13)upIndianapolis11.0101391113128
The Colts are nowhere near the team they have been in the past, but many rankers still hold out hope. They are 4 games back in the division and are barely sniffing a wildcard. They will need a good second half of the season.
10 (11)upNew Orleans11.479141810816
The Saints needed the bye last week. Even with one of the best offenses in the league, they are at the bottom of their division and still banged up.
11 (9)upSan Diego11.6911131015720
At 3-5, the Chargers are only a game back in the division. Crazy.
12 (16)upArizona11.619161076169
“The Arizona Cardinals have a 3 game lead in their division. I hope that was as weird for you to read as it was for me to type.” – Kilroy
13 (14)upGreen Bay12.41112814121318
The Packers lost to a much better Titans team and fell a game back of the Bears. This week could prove detrimental if they can’t beat the Vikings in Minnesota.
14 (15)upChicago14.018141512141512
“If you can start the Bears field goal holder in your league, (against the Lions) do it!” – The Lung
15 (7)upDallas14.613151217161119
“That ticking sound you hear is the countdown on Wade Phillips’ tenure as the ‘Boys Head Coach.’” – Kilroy
16 (10)upDenver16.016101716191417
“Look at the bright side Brandon. Yes you were blanketed in coverage and shut down by Miami, and yes Joey Porter called you “soft”. Things could be worse though. You could have been covered by an Entertainment Center.” – Kilroy
17 (20)upBaltimore16.22120211371710
With more experience and a better offensive line, Joe Flacco and Ray Rice could really make an impact in future years.
18 (17)upNew England17.615191619221915
“Rodney Harrison out for season: Patriots defense becomes much harder to score against.” – A Fleshner Fantasy “Wait, it helps to have timeouts left in the 4th quarter?!?!?!?” – A Fleshner Fantasy
19 (19)upNY Jets17.612171921251813
Brett Favre had a horrible game but the Jets still managed to beat the flailing Bills to tie for the lead in the AFC East.
20 (21)upAtlanta18.422182315172014
The Falcons have really turned things around. Matt Ryan is a legitimate NFL quarterback and Michael Turner was an excellent offseason acquisition.
21 (22)upMinnesota21.223222022182121
Fire Chilly.
22 (24)upMiami21.214212220212322
Greg Camarillo is really starting to solidify himself as a go to target for Chad Pennington.
23 (18)upJacksonville22.620241824232224
The Jaguars are losers of their last two and haven’t had anything resembling a running game.
24 (23)upHouston23.624252423202423
The Texans lost Matt Schaub for possibly a few weeks. Lucky for the Texans, the have a quality backup.
25 (25)upCleveland25.225232525262526
“Unless Brady Quinn’s planning on playing both ways the QB switch in C-Town isn’t going to save a season that’s circling the drain.” – Kilroy
26 (26)upSeattle26.826272727272629
“Any chance I can sign the Seahawks team surgeon in my league? He is getting more looks and touches than any of their offensive “weapons”…” – WaCougMBS
27 (28)upSt. Louis27.429262630242828
“A Torry Holt sighting was the only bright spot in another St. Louis Suck Sandwich.” – Kilroy
28 (29)upSan Francisco28.430292826293025
You might as well just put them at 2-7 and install a mercy rule for this Monday night’s game against the Cardinals.
29 (27)upOakland28.827283129282930
“$8,000,000 and a 2nd Round Pick for being constantly torched by opposing receivers. Hey Al, where do I sign up?” – Kilroy
30 (30)upKansas City29.628313028313127
Another week, another decent game from Tyler Thigpen. Due to injuries and a suspension, Jamaal Charles now assumes full duties in the backfield.
31 (31)upCincinnati30.231302931302731
Who would have thought Cedric Benson would not only play again, but be relevant.
32 (32)upDetroit32.032323232323232
The woeful Lions were up by 10 at the half, but just couldn’t pull it out. Each week it seems increasingly likely that we are watching history.

Thanks to everyone who helped make these rankings happen! Especially Kilroy who had a ton of blurbs to put in here this week. If you would like to help with the rankings and give your own input as to where teams should be ranked you can do so here each week!
