Welcome back to another edition of fantasy sleepers. This week we’ll take a look at some key match ups to exploit along with some fill in starters forced into action because of injury. Hopefully you all enjoyed a career day from Lance Moore and admirable stats from JaMarcus Russell. And to those of you who went with Chris Perry (against the Browns and you couldn’t even rack up 100 yards?!), Jerramy Stevens, and Josh Morgan, you have my sincerest apologies.
Quarterback
Matt Cassel – Patriots: I know he’s been a disappointment as of late but I have a feeling the bye week did him some good. He should be on the same page with Randy Moss and ready to pick apart a pretty weak San Francisco secondary. The 49ers secondary has been torched by Drew Brees, Matt Hasselbeck, and even John Kitna. Cassel has arguably better weapons than any of those quarterbacks, and he should be able to move the ball down the field. For those owners with bye week or injury problems, feel free to plug Cassel in, and enjoy the 200 plus yards and 2 touchdown passes.
Running Back
Mewelde Moore – Steelers: I know he’s facing the vaunted Jaguars defense this week, but did you know that the Jags are in the top 5 of points allowed to running backs? If Big Ben is out this week, the Steelers will lean even more heavily on the run. Moore is also a exceptional receiver, and should be able to gather a handful of catches out of the backfield as well. I like him for about 70 yards on the ground, 30 through the air, and a touchdown.
Wide Receiver
Domenik Hixon – Giants: Call it a hunch, but I don’t think it’s Steve Smith that has the break out game. I think its Hixon. Hixon moves into Burress’ spot out wide, and should serve as the primary deep threat. He’s matched up against a Seattle pass defense that has been vulnerable over the past few weeks. While this game will be a one weak wonder for Hixon, he makes a great play in deeper leagues as well as those who need a plug and play during the bye. I’d expect somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 – 70 yards and a possible score.
Marty Booker – Bears: The Bears are playing the Lions, that’s really all you need to know about this game. Really, that’s it. Kyle Orton has been playing very well recently and he should be able to hook up with Booker for at least one score and 80 yards. The Lions are that bad. With Brandon Lloyd being sidelined with a knee injury, Booker is the most reliable receiver on the Bears roster. In this game, there will be plenty of opportunities for Booker to put up stats as third wide receiver for 12 team and larger leagues.
