2011 Fantasy Football Rankings: Kicker

By R.J. White

I’d like to tell you that there’s some unknown formula to finding value at the kicker position, but there’s not. It tends to be a crap-shoot most years, which is why fantasy drafters understandably leave them on the board till the end of their drafts. However, it’s generally a good idea to grab kickers from high-powered offenses, as you’ll see below. One guy that looks a little too low for me is Alex Henery. David Akers has been a fantasy mainstay at the kicker position for years, partly due to his talent but largely due to scoring opportunities provided by the Eagles offense. Those aren’t following him to San Francisco; instead, they’ll be inherited by Henery, who seems to me to be a lock for the top-10. I generally don’t draft kickers, but Henery will be the first guy I look for when I’m making a kicker add right before the season starts.
