Sleeper Watch - 3 comments

Week 7 is here, and we’re here to give you some fantasy football sleepers to consider plugging into your lineups this week. We’ll feature one QB, one RB, one WR, one TE and one DF, but no kickers, because good luck making any sense of kicker production on a weekly basis. This week we’re taking advantage of the Saints’ poor numbers against QBs, the Bengals’ luck against RBs, the Redskins’ troubles against WRs, the Titans’ mediocrity against TEs and a defense playing well with their leader back in the fold.

QB Josh Freeman, TB vs. NO

Freeman’s coming off what was by far his best performance of the season, throwing for 328 yards and three TDs against the Chiefs while surrendering just one pick. He’s not a lock to repeat though, as that performance doesn’t quite pass the smell test — after all, he completed just 15 passes in the game. On the plus side, he goes into Week 7 with a dream matchup against the easiest matchup for fantasy QBs in the league, the Saints. The Bucs will have to throw to keep up, and the Saints D should be as accommodating as always.

RB Jonathan Dwyer, PIT at CIN

Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman have already been ruled out of Sunday night’s game, and Jonathan Dwyer is expected to be the starter over Baron Batch. Dwyer was inconsistent in his three games played early in the season, but he’s at least shown some fantasy upside in the past, cracking 100 yards rushing in a game last year. The Bengals are one of the better matchups around for fantasy RBs, giving up about 150 total yards per game and allowing more than one RB score per game.

WR Domenik Hixon, NYG vs. WAS

Washington has been atrocious against opposing WRs, giving up more than 240 yards per game to them this season, good for last in the league. Even with Hakeem Nicks back, I think Domenik Hixon is a borderline WR3 in fantasy leagues this week. Nicks returned last week against the 49ers and Hixon still managed 78 yards on four catches. That stat-line seems doable this week in what figures to be a high-scoring game.

TE Scott Chandler, BUF vs. TEN

Chandler has fallen off the fantasy radar after catching four TDs in the first four weeks of the season. While he wasn’t great in Week 5, hauling in four passes for 40 yards and no TDs, he was downright awful last week, with just a four-yard catch to his credit. However, he’s up against a great matchup for TEs this week, as the Titans are giving up 82.5 receiving yards per game to TEs and more than a TD per game as well.

DF Cleveland Browns, CLE at IND

The Browns by picking up four interceptions, forcing two fumbles and scoring a defensive touchdown against the Eagles. Then star corner Joe Haden was suspended for four games, and the defense intercepted just three passes in four games while forcing no fumbles and scoring no defensive TDs. Haden returned last week against the Browns, and the team had three interceptions, two forced fumbles and another defensive TD. Translation: Fear Haden. (Real translation: small sample size.) Andrew Luck will be locked onto Reggie Wayne, as will Haden. I expect another very good effort from the Browns this week.
