The Washington Post reports that Robert Griffin III's MRI revealed a partially torn ACL and LCL in his right knee. Griffin is traveling down to Florida to be examined by Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday to determine if the injuries are old or new. It's not clear whether surgery will be required or how long the quarterback will be sidelined if the injuries are determined to be new ones, but exploratory surgery to determine the severity is also said to be an option. RGIII is hoping to avoid reconstructive right knee surgery for the second time in his football career, but that remains to be seen. Griffin's return timetable has been set at 6-8 months, the normal recovery period for an ACL reconstruction. Griffin will undergo surgery early Wednesday morning. At Baylor, Griffin did bounce back from 2009 ACL surgery to complete 67 percent of his passes with a 22:8 TD-to-INT ratio and eight rushing scores in 2010. "He should be ready for the 2013 regular season opener according to the sources that I spoke with," Mortensen stated on SportsCenter. Although Griffin's recovery will certainly be worth tracking all offseason, ACL surgeries don't bother us as much as they used to. Assuming he avoids setbacks, Griffin's could even stand to make him a value pick in 2013 fantasy drafts.

Though it is only a little more than a month since Robert Griffin III underwent reconstructive knee surgery, Washington Redskins officials are encouraged enough with his recovery to believe he has a legitimate chance to start in the 2013 opener, according to team and league sources.
Griffin recently returned to Washington, where he spent some time rehabbing. Those who know him insist he is a physical freak, not unlike Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who was able to rush for 2,097 yards and win the MVP award the season after undergoing major knee surgery.
The Redskins know there still is a long way to go, and they're hardly going to rush Griffin. But they also know that based on what they've seen so far that it is well within the realm of possibility that Griffin will be the team's starting quarterback in Week 1.
Griffin won The Associated Press 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award after setting the NFL record for best passer rating by a rookie quarterback and leading Washington to its first NFC East title in 13 years.
Griffin, who underwent surgery last month to repair a torn ACL and LCL suffered in the Redskins' wild-card playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks, said at the NFL's awards ceremony earlier this month: "It's truly a blessing to be up there -- to be able to stand, first and foremost."
Starting to feel there may be a problem telling the truth in Washington. Okay, not breaking new ground there This news from the team that allowed him to play injured, lied - was puposely misleading - or was just careless with getting RGIII cleared to play, and now we here how fast he is recovering. Not sure what is their angle. Need to sell tickets? Raise ticket prices? Real concern is that they will take advantage of RGIII's willingness to play while hurt and ADP's amazing healing powers to get this kid on the field too soon.

I agree with mooch. I feel this news was to sell tickets. In dont think he will be ready for the season. They invested too much into him to bring him back too early

The glowing reviews of Robert Griffin III’s recovery from knee reconstruction continue.
Roughly two weeks after team physician James Andrews described Griffin as “superhuman” in his recovery efforts, Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan added more praise for the quarterback.
Friday evening in an interview with NFL Network, Shanahan said he expects Griffin to make an unprecedented comeback from January’s surgery to repair a torn ACL, LCL and meniscus.
“He’s over at the facility, rehabbing all of the time. He’ll set a record for coming back because that’s how hard he works,” Shanahan said.
The coach echoed what has been said throughout the process, that Griffin is further along that what is normally expected at this point. He added, however, that the Redskins won’t know exactly how realistic the Week 1 return goal is until late this summer.
“He is ahead, but there is a process,” Shanahan said. “It takes time. Robert will do it the right way and we’ll find out in July exactly where he’s at. … He will not come back until he’s 100 percent.”
