Keeper Help - Will Always Help In Return

Postby Dawinner127 » Tue Aug 11, 2009 8:21 am

10 Team league and we get to keep one player, but we lose the round we keep that player in. We can also only keep a player for one year and they can't be in picked from the first round. The only players who are actually worth mentioning being kept are (parenthesis is the round they were taken in last year):
Andre Johnson (2)
Thomas Jones (8)
Mendenhall (16)

Now here's where I need your help. I have been offered Steve Slaton and a fourth round pick for my second round pick. Now, it really becomes Slaton and a fourth for my second and a sixteenth (Slaton was a free agent). Seems like a no brainer for me to pull the trigger on this? I am also picking fourth this year so I'll have Slaton and pick 1.4.
I'm actually going to counter-offer and see if I can trade my third round pick instead of my second round pick or make him give me a third rounder and Slaton instead of a fourth. He is already keeping Turner so there is no loss in him trading Slaton for less, right?

Just leave me a link and I will get back to yours. Thanks in advanced fellas.
A win next week and all is forgotten.

What happens if you do the deal and then Keep AJ? Do you lose your 1st round pick too?

Try the counter and get back to us.

You definitely have to do it.

I'm not a fan of your keeper options so getting a top back for a second fixes that. Like you say, with your firts as well, you will be set. Obviously if you get him to take a lower pick, even better!

The keeper settings aren't like that. We can only keep one player, so it'd either Slaton or AJ, not both. I would still have my first round pick because we aren't allowed to keep players who were taken in the first round and AJ was taken in the second anyways.

If I was to keep AJ, I wouldn't make the trade. The only reason I want to do this trade is because I lose a 16th round pick to keep Slaton, whereas if I kept AJ, I would lose my second round. I'm going to lose my second round pick anyways, but I gain a 4th rounder instead of just losing a second if I kept AJ.

My plan is this, hopefully I can land a premiere WR with my 1.4 pick, if not, I'll definitely grab the best RB available to match with Slaton. Hopefully he bites on the third round pick instead of the second round pick.

I would definitely try and counter the trade offer and try and get Slaton. He is a first/second round back and if you can only give up a lateish second and hopefully acquire a second or third round pick then that would be great. I don't think Jones is worth keeping for an eigth as you may be able to get him then anyways. Mendenhall for a sisteenth is interesting but since you can only keep him for one year, I don't think there's much point. Aj would be an interesting option, especially if it's a PPR but a second is quite a steep price compared to the Slaton option. By picking at 1.4, you could always acquire AJ if you want...

It is a PPR so that's why I'm very hesitant on making this trade and keeping AJ. I can definitely see AJ going over 100 receptions again, but like you said, I can probably land him at 1.4. The only thing is, if Houston has a terrible week, I'd suffer with AJ and Slaton. I don't like to put all my eggs in one basket, but with these two, it might be worth it.

The ability to keep Slaton dominates keeping AJ. Try and do either of these deals, but dont let it fall through over counter offering. I would just go ahead and accept the original deal.

Even if he doesn't budge on the your counter offer I'd still take the trade. Slaton isn't a bad back to own in ppr and you still have pick 1.4. Go for it.
