claim Thomas then trade Thomas/Tate for Mathews/Jeffery WHIR

So my co worker just proposed a deal to me. I have the #1 waiver claim, which I was already thinking of using on Julius Thomas. He asked me to pick up Thomas and then package him with Ben Tate. I would be receiving Ryan Mathews and Alshon Jeffery. He is the Arian Foster owner.

What do ya'll think about this deal. Should i do it? I was planning on picking up Thomas anyway.

Was thinking of countering with Miles Austin and Julius Thomas for Dez, but idk if he would go for that

I wouldn't do this since it would leave you out of luck at TE until Gronk returns. Sudfeld was an afterthought in the Pats' O last week, and on top of that he's banged up. See if he'll throw in Finley instead of Jeffery, maybe. Otherwise, unless you think you can afford to take a goose egg at TE for another week or two, I's stand pat.

I would pick up someone like Brent Celek, Kellen Winslow, or Dallas Clark as placeholders till Gronk gets back

I would have to agree with the above. So many TE's emerged last week so if you don't have a viable starter it could really set you back. But if you think you can over come not having a TE its not a terrible deal.

Thanks for the help with mine.

As someone who doesn't trust Gronk to stay healthy, I'd rather just hold on to Thomas as insurance rather than make either of those two deals. It's not that the value isn't reasonable, but Mathews isn't going to make or break your season, whereas not having a good TE every week if Gronk can't come back strong will. The Dez counter is a little better for you, but even there, Dez has his own injury concerns too (not that I'm remotely suggesting he's not worth the risk, but just saying it's another little factor).

I'd hold on to Thomas.
BOLD PICKS FOR 2013
A. Rodgers outscores D. Brees in ESPN standard scoring by 40+.
D. McFadden plays 16 games (but ineffectively for someone whose only problem we always assumed was health).
M. Lynch=not a Top 10 RB.
V. Cruz=Top 7 WR.
G. Tate=Top 36 WR.
