Releasing a player:
There are only a few ways to get out of a contract agreement. The first is to release the player to waivers, once you do this you will incur the appropriate salary cap penalty unless someone else claims that player off of waivers within one week. If the player is claimed (and signed) from waivers within that time no salary cap penalty will be assessed.
NOTE: Any salary cap penalties for releasing players will be applied immediately after that player's release, and then removed if the player is claimed within one week, to prevent any team from inadvertently exceeding the salary cap.
In-season cuts:
If you cut a player during the season, you receive that player’s contract back that has not been used for that season. For example, if a player only played 2 games for you out of a 14 game season, that player only receives 15% of their contract because they only were on your team for 15% of the games. You would receive 85% of the contract back but the cost applied as in the case for off-season cuts increases from 50% of the yearly average of the remaining contract to 75%. So you would still be required to “buy out” the remainder of the contract (excluding the year you are in).
Teams wishing to cut a player during the season must post the Player name and Contract information in the Player Cuts thread in the League Forum.
A Commissioner will calculate the Salary Cap Ramifications of the cut and ask the owner to APPROVE or DENY the cut.
If the owner approves the cut the player will then be removed from that team’s roster by the Commissioner.
WAIVERS
All players are on waivers from 1 P.M. Eastern Sunday through 5 P.M. Eastern the next Wednesday. Any player that is involved in an early game (Thursday-Saturday) will also be on waivers from the start time of their game. Additionally, any dropped player is on waivers for 48 Hours from the time he was dropped.
To claim a player on waivers post a thread in the league forum with the contract that you intend to offer that player.
Highest bidder wins the player. A Commissioner will add the player to the winning bidder’s roster.
Bidding ends 48 Hours after the last bid placed. Should this 48 Hour "Window" extend past kickoff of the game involving the player or 1 P.M. eastern Sunday, whichever is earlier, any player(s) won will not be awarded until the following Tuesday.
EXAMPLE: A Bid is placed on a Player at 4:00 P.M. Saturday. If no other bids are placed that player will not be placed on the "winning" team until Tuesday Morning, since the 48 Hour "Window" would extend past the beginning of that week's games.
Contract tiebreakers are (in this order):
1.) Total Contract Amount
2.) Average Yearly Salary
The league minimum contract is 1 Year/$200,000.
FREE AGENTS
Any player that clears waivers is considered a Free Agent and may be signed to a One Year Minimum Contract by any team with cap/roster space.
Free Agents are awarded on a First-Come First-Served Basis.
To claim a Free Agent post the name of the player you wish to claim in the Free Agents thread in the League Forum. A commissioner will then add the player to that team’s roster at: 1 year - $200K
