JJ Watt... Is he worth it?

JJ Watt... Is he worth it?

Postby hammertoes » Fri Jul 19, 2013 8:51 am

This year I'm in my first IDP dynasty draft. My league awards huge points for sacks and turnovers. Based on the scoring system, JJ Watt is projected to score 85 more points than the #2 LB, and 123 points more than the #5 LB.

Is he worth his ADP of 43rd overall? Keep in mind this is a 14 team league.

No. I'll be shocked if he repeats last year's performance. He'll come back down the earth/regress to the mean a bit. That's the 1st pick of the 4th round, way too early for an IDP unless the scoring is outrageous, depth is already going to be lacking being that it's a 14 teamer.

Watt to me is a 7th to 8th rounder, you will want to get atleast 1 qb, 2 rbs, 2 wrs, and a te before defense

Rb- Doug Martin, A. Bradshaw, L. Miller, lacy, Starks

If you are totally set on getting Watt, keep your eyes on the boards and take him when the first linebackers move off the board. Watt should have a very good year, and the difference between himm and the rest of the DEs is huge. He's worth the leap as his return should more than make up the difference between the 1st and 8th LB taken.

I've targeted him that way in my mocks and have had success. The challenge is still getting value at the other DE spot (assuming there are 2). You will likely miss out on Kuechly this way unless you are really bold and grab him high. I got Mayo and Wagner 2 rounds after getting Watt in one 12 team draft, then turned back to filling out my offensive roster. That worked well. Then landed Weatherspoon, Tyvon Branch and Eric Berry later on.
