He's not. The jersey I saw says "Rice", not "Largent". I can appreciate the desire to honor a great retired player. However, I think that Largent shouldn't have waited for Rice to ask. Steve Largent is a Seattle football legend. Jerry Rice is and will be a sports legend. Retired numbers are honorable and respectful, and hopefully, humbling. They are not sacred.

True, I think Jerry will go into the HOF with a San Fran jersey not Seattle or Oakland.

Yeah, I can't really dig it either. Having your number retired is a great honor and I'm a little bothered that Largent would actually give it up. Sure, the player he gave it to is Jerry Rice, but you can imagine how the fans of the Seahawks feel about that. Many are not very happy to see someone other than Largent wearing #80 in Seattle. Even though it is Largent's call, I still don't like the idea of him giving someone else that honor, even if it's JR.
