Paramount Measures The Longest Yard Remake Source: Variety Tuesday, July 22, 2003
Paramount has set up a remake of The Longest Yard, the 1974 Burt Reynolds comedy drama, at Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions and is seeking a writer on the project.
The studio plans to adhere to the basic storyline of the original, in which Reynolds portrayed retired pro football quarterback Paul Crewe, who is sent to prison and forced by a sadistic warden to lead a team of inmates against a team of guards.
Plans for the remake call for boosting the comedy angles, bringing in contemporary elements such as the Internet and possibly partnering with MTV Films with an eye to casting urban music stars.

Really dreading the thought of a remake of this classic. Then again I have feared Spike Lee would do a remake with Will Smith as Paul Crewe....
