The Packers held their first day of full-contact practices Thursday and, according to published reports, running back Najeh Davenport was running over defenders left and right. Davenport goes 6-0, 250 (with 10 percent body fat) and is wearing lighter shoes this year to aid his 4.4, 4.5-speed. Head coach Mike Sherman said Davenport disappointed him on a few short-yardage situations on Thursday, but for the most part has been very impressive. “He’s had an excellent camp,” Sherman told the Green Bay Press Gazette. “He’s catching the ball well, he’s blocking extremely well and he’s running well.” Davenport has good speed, but he's not running around anybody. “Head on, if they want to take me on, I’m 250 pounds,” Davenport told the Press Gazette. “I’ll give them what they’re looking for.” Packers' defenders have been licking their wounds after tackling Davenport, cal! ling him a "load" and even comparing him to former Chiefs monster, Christian Okoye. "I took a cheap shot the other day (from an unnamed linebacker), so I've been trying to head-hunt some people," Davenport told the Green Bay News Chronicle. "I told them I was coming - some people listen, and some people don't."
The talk of Davenport taking touches away from starter Ahman Green is getting louder and louder…and we're officially listening. The Pack needs to keep Green healthy so he doesn't wear down like he did last year and they can't keep Najeh off the field if he's as good as advertised. They will make a formidable one-two punch. The only concerns with Davenport are his injury history and alleged misplaced feces problems. You didn't think we'd make it through an entire Newsbreaker about him without mentioning that, did you?
Goal line carries for Dav ? Ahman owners have to hope not.
