According to the Miami Herald, Travis Minor's father Leslie passed away on Thursday night when his motorcycle was struck by a drunk driver. Lee Swarner was booked on charges of vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, and driving on a suspended license. It was Swarner's sixth DWI.
Views Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Travis and his family. As for Swarner, a life sentence in the pokey--or worse--sounds just to us.
6th DWI he should have been put away for a LONG time after the 3rd. What the hell happened to 3 strikes and youre out.

He should have been shot and pissed on after the third offense.
This is just unexcuseable in my opinion
Once he made a mistake
two he should have beaten about the head with a blunt object and told never to do it again
third(see above)
Florida has the death penalty cmon this is ridculous
he is going jail this time for sure and for a very long time but it doesnt bring back Minor's Dad and this easily could have been prevented this harsher punishments on the 3rd and 4th and maybe even the 5th conviction.

why is it the DWI/DUI is one of those crimes which escapes the Mandatory Minimum notion you find for most crimes in almost all states??
I was arrested once in NYC (driving with a suspended license) and spent 30 hours in central processing (the Tombs..don't ask). 39 guys to a cell and almost ALL of them were in there for marijuana possession. Few were dealers...mostly they were guys that were nailed after buying on some street corner.
But amazingly...you get nailed 3 times on misdemeanor stuff like that and know you're gone. There's no way out...anywhere from 6 months in Rikers to 2 years upstate.
What they should be doing is something similar...
what's really stupid is that they think that taking away their right to drive is the issue...take away their right to drink and then take away their license
