This Years Clinton Portis

Postby jas99_ca » Fri Jul 25, 2003 11:27 pm

i would just like to know who you think this years clinton portis is going to be im not talking bout people like edge and warner who will fall low in most drafts

im talking bout players prefferably running backs who will make a big impact and will be drafted late or not at all in most drafts but will burst onto the scene sometime early in the season.

I'm gonna have to say Marcell Shipp on the Arizona Cardinals. He averaged 117 total yards - 81 rushing and 36 recieving - in six starts last year, 8th best among running backs. Some point this season he's gonna move into the starting lineup and get his chance and put up good numbers, just like Portis did last season. With Emmitt only playing part-time, he'll get his chance.

I agree that if Onterrio Smith wins the job out of camp, he will put up pretty good numbers. Bennett will probably get a lot more time to recover. Everything I hear about Bennett is not to expect him back until mid-season. But I guess that since we are talking about Portis, a highly regarded draft pick, then Charles Rogers could hit the ground running.

I think Shipp has a good chance to put up some numbers. Smith could also, but he has to get by Chapman first. I've read that Bennent is out at leat until mid season. Tough break. He was poised to have a great year, which would make Moss and Culpepper that much more dangerous. Portis like guys don't pop up too often, but I love the challenge of finding them!

I think Barlow will flat out explode this year. Otherwise maybe a back from Detroit (pick on besides Stewart) Bryson? Of course Trung could be. You know now tht I think of it there are alot of them and only one can do it. So good luck picking it, I did it last year, but that was luck somewhat

Shipp could be real good.

Who ever wins the starting spot in Vikingland. (O Smith is not a lock on that)

I'm keeping an eye on the NE. I'm hoping Faulk becomes the starter there. He's a small, fast, 'big play potential' RB that could blow up if he's given the chance.

I also like either Betts or Watson in Washington. Everyone has the under-achieving Canidate lighting it up this year. But I think either Betts or Watson will emerge on top. (c'mon preseason!!!)
