Ironically, kickers can make or break you most weeks yet picking the right one from year to year is a total crapshoot. Let me give you a small sample: (but I'm not one for precise details)
2000 Stover was a waiver wire pick-up and was # 1 in scoring that year
2002 Mare was picked in the top 5 but finished 10-15.
2002 Akers was not in the top 10
2002 Wilkens was a top pick but was a disappointment
2002 Ace Feeley was a surprise
bla, bla, bla we are talking about kickers...but they are very important...just hard to pick the right one from year to year. You kind of have to try and pick a kicker from a team who is good but not too good. In 2001, the ravens stalled a lot in the redzone -no Jamal - and Stover was big.
Steelers were the same way in 2001. I don't even remember the guy's name but he sucked in real football but got so many opp's that he scored a ton of points.
