The Boston Globe and Boston Herald are reporting that the Patriots have agreed to terms with Larry Centers, but team spokesman Stacey James would only confirm that the team had spoken with the free agent fullback. The Pats signed offensive lineman Brenden Stai, an eight-year vet.

This has been rumored since last week, so it probably has legs. The spokesman likely is remaining vague until all the details get worked out. This backfield needs Centers, the best pass-catching back of all-time. He is not a threat to Antowain Smith, but could turn Kevin Faulk into a complete non-factor.
