Don't bury Bettis just yet...

Postby Confluence » Mon Jul 28, 2003 12:28 pm

The Post-Gazette reports Steelers RB Jerome Bettis was among the stars of the run practice, winning each of 14 40-yard runs and looking trimmer than he has in each of his eight seasons with the Steelers. "I don't know if it's the best shape [I've been in] because every year I come [to camp] in shape," Bettis said. "It's mainly because I've been here in town for a long time. I feel good." Bettis said he weighed in at 252 pounds yesterday morning, which, he said, is only about 3 pounds lighter than normal. Still, his face and neck are noticeably thinner. Bettis spent part of the off-season working with track specialist Bob Kersee in Los Angeles. But he returned earlier than usual and has been working out for several months at the Steelers' South Side practice facility.
