I think Jimmy Smiths Value will go up.

Postby Lightzout36 » Wed Nov 03, 2004 6:01 pm

Yeah i kno you think i am crazy but here is why I think so. i think the QB now will be throwing alot to Jimmy Smith. They like to throw to guys that they believe will catch the ball 9 times out of 10. When he came in for lefty those two plays he threw to Smith both times. And if you go back to last year. When c-pep was out Moss had way more balls thrown his way. Now I kno moss is a better WR but i just think that these back up QB's really like to focus in on one WR rather than spread the ball. Anyone happen to agree with me?

I disagree with you. I think with Lefty out, the QB will go to Reggie Williams. I guess it can go either way, it really depends on who he finds the connection with first. (Ex: Ben to Plax)

Ok sorry about the confusion.

All I was saying is, I think Jimmy Smith's value will either stay the same or go up.

New QB's tend to throw to one guy instead of spreading the ball around.

Anyone agree

I'll give you the benifit of the doubt on that Smith "might" be targeted more but his value could possibly drop instead b/c of a new QB who will inconsistant

Leftwich might not miss any time.

I tend to agree in most situations, but it's not always the case.
Volek has found Mason more this year, on the other hand, Big Ben has hooked up with Plax rather than Hines...it's hard to predict.
So Smith's value could fall just as easily as it could rise, it really depends on whether he develops a connection with Garrard or whoever JAX's backup QB is.

Of course, this all becomes a moot point if Leftwich doesn't miss time, as has been reported.

It will be tougher for Smith if Leftwich misses any time. They're putting in some scrubby backup who was a fourth round pick. Only thing positive about Garrard (the backup) is that he has been in the SD system for 4 years which means little if he cannot be productive. I'm still sticking with Smith cuz he is the go to man on the team.

It really breaks down to this:

Would you rather have a good player on a crappy offence or an average player on a good offence?
