this was something I was thiking about the other day. Suppose you have a bad start to the season, and go say 1-5. now, you arent going to make the playoffs in all likelihood. Would you bench all of your players, ensuring last place and the first overall pick for the next year? this doesnt seem very ethical, but I could see myself doing it if I knew I had no chance. would any of you guys do this?

no. I wouldn't.

it messes with the integrity of the league and might cause some of your leaguemates to become disgruntled.

I believe that tactics such as this have led the nba, among others, to hold a draft lottery.

I would be inclined to have a rule in place that if anyone does that they automatically forfeit their draft position and get the last pick. it is one thing if you can't fill every single spot in your lineup, it is quite another if you just bench everyone.

not kosher imo

No way I'd do it, it's unethical and not fair to the other teams in your league. They would be guaranteed a free win when they played you which would be very unfair.

we are implementing a lottery in our dynasty for this exact reason.

I wouldn't do it at all. I think that is a crappy way to sandbag for next year. If you enjoy playing fantasy football, I don't see why you would ever play to lose.

hmmm... another solution to a problem like this (and it would take care of pretty much the whole problem, although it would be some work for the commish) would be to do the playoff teams in reverse order at the tail of the draft and do the other teams by total number of points scored by the entire roster.

You would be kicked out of my leagues if it was discovered. I'm in some pretty serious leagues though, I don't know how your fellow owners would take it.

Personally I wouldn't do it. Besides, I like to play the spoiler even if I can't go to the playoffs myself. I like to see how many owners I can eliminate on my own. It's also fun snagging all of the good free agents away from the contenders.
