BEST Defenses for week 9 -- finally!

P, can just you justify New England this week? The Rams have looked great on offense most weeks, except against Miami. Plus, New England's defense is getting injury riddled.

I appreciate the rankings and any clarification you could provide on why they are in the upper levels here. I have them in multiple leagues, and trying to decide against Philly among others.

Well, first you have to keep in mind that this list is based on average performance over the course of the year, and does not account for very recent injuries, so you have to take that into account yourself, BUT:

St. Louis does give up just under 3 sacks per game, and 2 turnovers, each of which is an opportunity for a defensive score, so while the offense may be pretty good, they are NOT a bad opponent, fantasy wise...

Also consider what the Jets just got done doing to a Miami D that is very comparable to Buffalo's defense...

I don't think this is true at all. What brings you to make this comparison?

Didn't Buffalo hold CMart to 70 yards last time in a 16-14 squeaker?

Brut - you're right about the fact that Martin ran all over the Dolphins in both games and Buffalo held him to 77 yds, but compare the first two games... Martin's performance is largely irrelevant. What is relevant is the fact that the Jets don't turn the ball over and Penny is rarely sacked. Both Miami and Buffalo played the Jets tough in weeks 4 and 5...

Week 4 - Miami's D stats: 17 pts allowed, 3 sacks, 1 int, 0 FR
Week 5 - Buffalo's D stats: 16 pts allowed, 2 sacks, 0 int, 1 FR

Even though they only gave up 16 points, the fact of the matter remains that the Jets don't turn the ball over. And as far as performances against the Jets, Buffalo's week 5 performance is pretty similar to Miami's week 4 performance. Now, Miami's second game against the Jets was a Monday Night blowout, and you might assume that Buf won't give up 41 points. However, based on week 5, they are still not a good play - and their rating reflects it.

It's up to each individual to set their own D. and they shouldn't whine if it doesn't work out.

Would it make sense to start CHI even if my opponent has Tiki on his starting roster?

I am surprised CHI is ranked so high. Tiki has been rushing like a mad man lately and the CHI D gives up 128 rushing yds per game.

I have the SD, CHI and the TB D. I had penciled in the SD to start vs. NO. I guess I will be starting the CHI D instead. Does anyone think this move would be a mistake? I know starting TB would be a mistake.

I have AZ and Detroit. Lions really tempt me vs Boonell and the
Skins. Lions have been getting more turnovers than Az.

Forget about the AZ debacle last week. Every defense except STL has posted alot of points against Miami this year. Good play this week.
