Roy as the R.O.Y.

Postby FavreFan1998 » Fri Nov 05, 2004 4:24 pm

everyone is calling him R.O.Y. Williams, basically assuming he will win the award but it seems to be that roethlisberger should be a unanimous vote right now for ROY. He is hyped like no other on ESPN, is 5-0 as a starter, beat the patriots record streak, and has the steelers playing great. He himself is playing mistake free football. I know Williams has put up nice stats but in real ball its no comparison in my mind

I would definitely give it to Big Ben right now.

Roy has been hurt. Plus, it's much more demanding on a rookie QB IMO.

I think people call him R.O.Y. because they think it's a clever.

Depends... I'd say Ben for now, but I'd like to see what happens by seasons end.

I don't see how Ben isn't R.O.Y. at this point. A rookie quarterback with a passer rating of avove 100 and a five game winning streak isn't something that grows on trees in the NFL. Albeit, we're only half way through the season, but at this point you have to give it to Big Ben.

Don't they give it to one AFC player and one NFC?

I thought it was one on defense and one on offense...but I might be wrong.

We talked about this last week. I still maintain that if Ben wins the AFC North for the Steelers, he'll be the Rookie of the Year. Williams is not helping himself getting hurt and being out so much. Moore would also have had a good chance at it if he were the feature in MIN.

The award normally goes to RB's most years and has only been won by a QB once.

it is one defensive and one offensive ROY

Heres my crazy idea: Big Ben is the easy ROY right now, but by the end of the year Roy has it locked up.

rookie QB that wasn't supposed to be ready for two years steps in for the injured vet and not only makes history by stopping the Pats streak but also leads them to a playoff berth after the team went 6-10 last year. How can he not be rookie of the year. If they go 4-5 for the rest of the year which is unlikely they'll still be 10-6 with him at the helm for the bulk of the wins. To me because of his start there is no way anyone but him wins ROY unless either roy from this point out does his best Randy Owens impersonation or Big Ben does his worst Kyle Boller impersonation both highly unlikely scenarios.

If things continue to play out as they have been, I think you are going to have a tight two man race between Michael Clayton and Big Ben. Clayton is on pace for over 1100 yds., 80 catches and 5 TDs, not shabby for a rookie WR.
