The QB Question
Tuesday, July 29, 2003 Within the big question of
whether Tim Couch or Kelly Holcomb will lead the
2003 Browns are a thousand other questions.
Today's: How mobile are these guys?
SCRAMBLING MAN
Couch: Rushed 40 times for 267 yards (6.7) in 14
starts as a 1999 rookie. In 14 2002 starts,
rushed just 23 times for 77 yards (3.3). ... Was
sacked 56 times in '99, 30 times in '02.
Holcomb: Rushed eight times for nine yards in
four regular-season appearances last season. ...
Rushed two times for three yards in playoff game
at Pittsburgh. ... Was sacked five times in
regular season, once in playoff game.
WHAT'S NEW?
Couch: Dropped weight, reduced body fat and
juiced up leg strength. ... Now listed at
6-foot-4, 220 pounds. ... Was listed as 6-4, 227
in 2002.
Holcomb: He is listed for the second straight
year at 6-2, 212, but he says he weighs less and
feels lighter on his feet this summer.
IN HIS OWN WORDS
Couch: "That's why I wanted to drop the weight
... make the defense worry about one more thing.
I'm not going to turn into Michael Vick, but if I
can scramble for a first down here and there,
they've got to worry about it."
Holcomb: "(Conditioning coach) Buddy Morris
helped me a bunch. I've always been able to avoid
the rush. I've been quick, but I've never been
able to run. I can run a little bit now."
