Strahan Done for the Year

Postby IRON CHEF » Mon Nov 08, 2004 3:53 pm

http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3146584

Giants defensive end Michael Strahan is done for the year and will be joined on the inactive list for the remainder of the season by the team's other starting defensive end Keith Washington.

Strahan told FOXSports.com that his worst fears were confirmed when an MRI showed a tear of his pectoral muscle.
"I'm getting surgery on Wednesday," said Strahan after meeting with the team doctor to review his MRI. "I guess my season is over. It's not partial like we had hoped."

Strahan injured his pectoral muscle in the third quarter of yesterday's loss to Chicago.

In addition, FOXSports.com has also learned that Washington tore his ACL and will be out for the year as well. Losing one starting defensive end in a game is tough but to lose both starters including one All-Pro is nothing short of a nightmare for defensive coordinator Tim Lewis.

Strahan's absence will mark the first time he has missed a game since 1995 — an incredible streak for anybody, much less a defensive lineman. Washington has 17 tackles this season but has been extremely depending flanking the other side of the line from Strahan

Considering how the Giants played yesterday, I'd imagine that losing their DEs will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. With the Eagles already entrenched as the probable team to win the NFC East, the Giants will have to scramble for a wildcard. There are too many other good teams out there. I say the Giants miss the playoffs.

I think you have to be happy if you are a Roth owner looking to a week 15 playoff game.

McNabb and TO owners should breathe a little easier about the week 12 showdown that may now have less playoff implications, at least from the Giants standpoint.

Should help Portis & Coles owners in week 13

I think Osi would have been a starter next year anyway and he's good enough to start now. He'll get his chance. Obviously the Giants won't have an answer for the void left by Strahan.

This will have a horrible trickle effect. Strahan demands double courage and w/o that the rest of the line will be exposed. The secondary is already injury depleted and even though Gibril is quietly making a run at defensive RoY it will be tough to overcome the lack of pressure up front. Not to mention the Giants suspect run defense just got a bit more suspicious.

Oh well maybe it's Eli time. :-)
