USA Today/Football Weekly's TOP NFL Player List

Postby ScreamingWeasel » Thu Jul 31, 2003 6:26 pm

Just got the latest issue of Football Weekly in the mail today.
This issue? Their ranking of the Top 50 NFL Players.
This is not necessarily in terms of Fantasy Football. It is ALL players.

It is their list of the Top 50 players, any position, that are simply the BEST talent in the NFL.
To quote F'Ball Weekly: "The rating system includes grades for all players at all positions in more than 20 categories. The goal is to achieve accurate overall ratings regardless of position".

For the sake of space, here are the Top 25.

1. Jonathan Ogden T Ravens
2. Marshall Faulk RB Rams
3. Brett Favre QB Packers
4. Marvin Harrison WR Colts
5. Tony Gonzalez TE Chiefs
6. Ray Lewis LB Ravens
7. Derrick Brooks LB Bucs
8. Terrell Owens WR 49ers
9. Priest Holmes RB Chiefs
10. Steve McNair QB Titans
11. Jeremy Shockey TE Giants
12. Todd Heap TE Ravens
13. LaDanian Tonlinson RB Chargers

21. Peyton Manning QB Colts
22. Chris Samuels T Redskins

i think champ bailey and lavar arrington are better talent then chris samuels who made that list at 22. as a redskin fan i would put champ and lavar on the list somewhere... id say thats a pretty fair assessment right? im not sure i would put samuels in the top 25 yet...

i think mcnair is a little high (hes better than vick and mcnabb? they werent even mentioned), and marcus pollard? whats he doing on there??

weasy if u would where did where champ and lavar rank at their respective positions?

That list is outright laughable. I wouldn't pay any attention to it at all Terp.

Champ Bailey was #29. Arrington did not make the list.

Let me add that they did this on a point system, looking at 20+ different categories. There were a lot of ties, total points-wise. (There were 4 players tied at #9, for instance). But as the ties weren't in alphabetical order, I assume there was some difference that produced the order. You know. Out in the 3rd decimal place or something.

For me - I just found it surprising that Jonathan Ogden was #1.
Not exactly a name that springs to mind. You know?

If Ricky Wiliams had been #1, I would have yawned, turned the page and almost certainly not posted the list here.
