Play for now or play for later?

Postby matmat » Sun Nov 14, 2004 7:24 pm

before you yell at me for posting in the wrong place:
1) it's a strategy question as much as it is a lineup question
2) there's noone in the lineup/waiver forum right now and I need an answer before the 8:30 game...

Looks like at the conclusion of the 4pm(EST) games I will be down something like 8 points. (standard scoring). I will have TO and two empty WR slots left, he has noone left.

I could drop any of
Brady
Staley
McCardell
Rod Smith
to pick up any of
Lee Evans
David Patten
Quincy Morgan
F Mitchell
T Pinkston

Should I play for the remainder of the season (i.e. keep my better players for the long run)
or play for this week and drop a couple of my strong bench players for two flavors of the week to overcome the 16 point deficit?

If you don't feel safe with one guy being left and need a win, then you might get rid of someone because your season might depend on it. If you think Owens will get the required points, there's no sense wasting a player you could/will use for one game. You would probably not get them back.

So let me get this straight...Youre asking if you should drop Rod Smith for Pinkston? i dont care what rational you have for doing this, its an idiotic idea no matter what. you should have made a deal or somthing before the week started to fill those open slots.

Never, ever drop a player of the caliber of those guys to pick up what you suggested. Take the loss, even if you are on a downward spiral. Cutting those guys will do two things:

1.) weaken the heck out of your team for any week afterward

2.) strengthen someone else's team.

Either way, that strategy would come back to bite you. And picking up those other guys is no guarantee of a win, either. So, you would conceivably lose the game AND the players.
