this is an overblown story by a wide margin. It happened after 9 oclock and have seen things just as racy on other channels -- and suprise suprise, the actual show they are spoofing.
It happened after 9 o clock on the east coast, but earlier in other parts of the country (i think 8:30 on the west coast....i don't know how time zones work).
Gotta agree. It was neither funny, nor very offensive (and I had kids in the room).
The only funny (or offensive?) things are the aftermath 'outrage' and TO's basking in the attention.

So, it happened after 9pm, so it's OK. We all know most kids stay up later than ever. What -- they're better equipped to deal with racy stuff after 9pm? I remember when this type of stuff was reserved for after midnight, and now how it's creeping more and more into our "prime time". We're all supposed to be OK with it because there's worst stuff on other channels. After a while, we'll all become so numb to it, that it won't seem so bad when racy stuff starts coming on at 6pm or earlier.
And I agree about Grand Theft Auto -- another prime example of how this stuff slowly slips into our "OK" range. In the very near future, we'll look back on Grand Theft Auto as a pretty tame video game compared to whatever junk they have coming out then.
It's just weird that all this edgy media continues to slip into our worlds and how we all just kinda let it happen.

Can I add, it may have been after 9pm EST, but for those of us out west, this was at 6pm. I understand the outrage out west, cause our kids were awake and watching it. If this wasn't live nationwide, and only 9pm everywhere, then I see no problem with it.
I did not see this ad, but it dosen't belong on TV prior to 9pm. I'm glad my child did not see it. Although I wish I could have to see how bad it really was.
Sporting events are family events. If you can't watch your language for 3 hours then stay home.

Agree 100%. Everyone just wants to keep puching the envelope further and further. When will this ever end? Will porno movies be alowed after 9pm on network TV in 30 years?

there was no t&a. and even if there were, what is with the puritanical holdovers? people, please. no one is going to go blind at the sight of a nude person. i know from experience.
kids, grandparents and pets will all be fine. in fact, if it were shown more, we'd probably have to hear about it less.
displaying violence is a different story because it's been so directly linked to effect violent behavior. that's just irresponsible. but nudity?

Well the problem is that the airwaves are actually owened by the public, and not the networks etc. It should be the public's majority opinion, and not that of the vocal minority.
And yes, there should be a place for adult humor being it sophisticated or crass. Just because kids are staying up later doesn't really hold much sway from where I sit.
There have been racier shows and prmos during the day, and on primte time before. Nudity and sex have been handled on primtime before. I didn't think the inherent joke was necessary or all that funny, but on the otherhand, I think it is overblown.
Last I checked, Desperate Houswives is shown on the West Coast. Also last time I checked, they have shown racier promo spots on other stations. Last I checked, seinfeld has devoted whole episodes to masturbation and being "sponge worthy". Those are now syndicated around the nation and some are shown at 6 oclock. Sex and the city is now syndaicated and shown during prime time. And frankly, that is just as bad, even in edited form that anything we saw monday night.
I realize one is cable and one is broadcast. But realistically, how many people really only use the over the air signal anymore. If you have basic cable, those shows are on.
I do think that this episode is different than nipple gate, as they didn't actually show any nudity. Desperate Houswives is deemed fit for broadcast anyway, so a promo that doesn't do anything the show doesn't already doesn't is no longer allowed? silly.
and at the end of the day, its ok for kids to watch bonecrushing violence and worship as heros players, drunk drivers, drug trafficers, wife beaters, racists, liars etc, but a little stupid adult humor with the suggestion of nudity is suddenly bad?
lets face it, the nfl has been marketing sex and violence for quite sometime. the fact that it shocks people now is simply ridiculous.
there is a reason why a lot of academic, liberal types look down on the game -- and some of it is that sex-violence connection.
