Has anyone ever seen or made a histogram that plotted the # of punt/kick returns as a function of yardage? I have this funny feeling that this would be an exponential distribution function, but never actually tried it.

Interesting question. Without having any data to support this, I'd guess that the distribution wouldn't be quite exponential. 90+ yard kickoff returns might turn out to be a bit more common than, say, 70-79 yard returns; once you're through, you're usually through, and only rarely are returners stopped 10 or 20 yards before the end zone.

Just a guess, though. Feel like running some numbers?
