Bears: Jones upgraded but probably won't start

Running back Thomas Jones was upgraded from questionable to probable for Sunday's game against the Colts. He sprained his left big toe in the Halloween game against the 49ers and has missed the two games since then, but media reports out of Chicago indicate Jones looks as close to 100 percent as he's been since that time. Bears coach Lovie Smith indicated he intended to ease Jones back into the lineup, and that Anthony Thomas may be the starter again this week.

Don't rush to put Jones back into the lineup quite yet, as it sounds as if he and the A-Train will share the load this week. Lovie has indicated that Jones will still be the starter when he's healthy, so maybe Jones isn't quite all the way back just yet.

Coaches love to play games....and Lovie is no exception. Don't fall for the mind games and trust what Lovie has said all along would happen when Jones was healthy.

Expect Jones to start and receive 75-80% of the workload.
Smith has repeatedly and steadfastly stated that Jones will be the starter, and get most of the looks when healthy. Pre-injury, A-Train was getting 1-5 carries per game. Expect that to be in the 7-10 range this Sunday, as he has earned a few more looks.

Jones was removed from the injury report completely on Friday PM and has practiced at full speed all week.

The stated plan at running back still is to split time between Thomas Jones and Anthony Thomas, although Smith is enjoying a little uncertainty at the media's expense.

"How about game-day decision," Smith said. "I kind of like that. Game-day decision and both guys will play."
