Don't forget about your Kicker...

Postby fantasy messenger » Sun Nov 21, 2004 1:55 am

Last year I picked up Wilkins STL about mid-season and he made the difference in winning my fantasy league.

Don't forget about upgrading your kicker. It is a big mistake that way too many fantasy owners forget to give attention to late in the season.

I picked up Wilkins last year as well and he was a big addition, but this year, I've been through a few kickers with no success, right now I have Graham from the Bengals. Same thing for defense. Last year I picked up the Dallas D and they had big weeks for me, this year I've been through many and they've struggled, so I made a deal for New England last week.

i hate kickers...they are so inconsistent. you can flip a coin and pretty much have as much luck with that as by going by stats.

Hey. It's true that kickers are inconsistent compared to other players but you definately need to take a close look at them at the end of the season. Going into the playoffs you want to at least look at the stats and see which kickers are scoring the most as oppossed to someone like a M. Vanderjagt who is just kicking extra points. We may not put much stock in kickers but let's be honest. I would rather have my kicker scoring 7 plus points than 2 come playoff time.

I had Wilkins the bulk of last year, too. He was 2nd in points scored and did great for me for the most part.

This year, I think I've settled on Josh Brown. Unless you have guys named Vinateri or Akers, he is pretty solid for an offense just good enough to generate healthy points and just bad enough for half of those points to be field goals.

I picked up Jeff Reed during the course of this season, and so far he's doing quite well.

If you get lucky with your kicker, you can get an extra 10pts on your total for the week. Hell, the kicker was the highest scoring player on the team I was playing the other week ... though that was partly because the Pats let their kicker throw a touchdown :).

Draft a kicker in the last round if at all.
Each week, look over the WW for kickers
Look for the one who has the best combination of:
A) is on a high(er) scoring offense
B) is playing a team with a poor defense.

Thats how i go about picking my kicker. Couple examples of guys you MAY be able to find on your WW that should have a good week:

Kaeding
Elam
Reed (is he still kicking in Pitt? hes not very good)
M anderson (is he still kicking in minnie? hes really old)

My 10 team league requires carrying two kickers. So, 20 are taken and only floatasm is left on the waiver wire.
