I am in first place in a 12 team private "money" keeper league. This league has been in existence for 13 years now. However...I was not a part of the league until last season. A long time member quit the league and I was invited by the commisioner (my brother in law) to take his place and also inherit that managers team.
OK...not a problem so far since I love fantasy football. The league is a TD only league that starts 1 QB...2 WR's...2 RB's...PK...TE...and Defense. I inherited a team with Peyton Manning, Randy Moss and Tony Gonzalez and the rest of the players were pretty much waiver wire material (Koren Robinson, Antwoin Smith, etc. etc.).
I finished with the best regular season record last season (3rd in playoffs) and added Bryan Westbrook along the way. This season so far I am dominating ...thanks to Payton (and Moss when he is playing) and have added Rueben Droughns and Plaxico Burress along the way via trade.
Now...to get to the point of this post. As nice as it is to be sitting in lst place with a fantastic team.....I am having a hard time feeling like I accomplished anything. I mean...the core of my team was handed to me.
Am I foolish for entertaining thoughts of trading Manning, Moss, or Gonzo (or 2 of them or for that matter all 3)...just to put my mark on the team and have the piece of mind to know that win or lose....it is MY team?
"Sometime during the Pats game last week, I decided that Tomlinson was the best overall running back of my lifetime. There's nothing he can't do: deadly receiver, tough inside runner, explosive to the outside, you name it." - ESPN's Bill Simmons
13 years? thats insane. I wouldnt trade anyone its like you got a good draft day. Every year it will be harder for you to stay number 1. And you didnt even win the playoffs last year? Keep your team.
You have a good team that you have put your fingerprints on by adding droughns and other such players. Would you feel better if your team was in the cellar. At least you have $$$ and can feel bad vs. the opposite. Feel worse and be broke and in last place.
Don't over think your situation. You might end up regretting it after you fork your money over because you felt EMPTY inside.
Trading Manning is insane, even if you got CPEP.
Trading Moss is insane, even if you got TO.

Trade Manning so you feel better about yourself??!!
C'mon man this is FF, no time for feelings..Take a cold shower, slap on some Mennen skin bracer and get back out there and Fight Fight Fight!!!
Don't give up the ship...........sell it!!

You kept the team going. Sure you had a nice start, but if you hadn't added the key players you have now, you wouldn't be sitting on top of the league.
thats life, you got thrown a good team, it goes the other way for alot of people. to get to baseball for a sec. i inhereted a fantasy baseball team two years ago AL only and the only two good guys were jeter and Thome. Well this was the year Jeter popped his shoulder and missed the first 2 1/2 months and thome got traded to the NL. thats just the way it goes, dont trade peyton or moss unless your insane. why would you trade peyton in one of, or if not the best season a qb ever had. the touchdown numbers boggle the mind. Be wise...
QB- Green
RB- Edge, McGahee, alexander
WR- Mason, Santana moss, chad johnson
TE- McMicheal
K- Longwell
DEF- Bal.
(7-4... had a tough scheduale but im easily the best team, sitting in second by one game but im leasing by far in points catagory. good luck everyone this week.)
