I was never a Pantera fan... I'm not saying they sucked GP, so please dont kill me... but I couldnt ever get into them. I like the old-school rock like Zeppelin and The Who as well as new-age rock like Incubus, Silvertide and Seether.

Sad day for rock music.

What a insane, horrible, and tragic turn of events.
Pantera were one of the few "metal" bands I've really enjoyed and respected over the last decade or so.
Dimebag was an incredible musician.
Such a waste...

I also have to say that the cop who finally killed this deranged assailant is a true hero. He apparantly was on patrol nearby, heard the shooting and ruckus, and rushed into the club, found Gale (the lunatic assailant)still firing while holding a hostage in a head-lock. The officer had the training and the cajones to take aim and put an end to this massacre. If anyone knows this officer's name please post it. Through his resolve and dedication, he most likely prevented an even greater tragedy. He deserves recognition.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims families and friends.

District patrol officer James D. Niggemeyer, 31, responded within minutes to the call about shooting inside the club, entering through the back door to investigate. The officer then fatally shot the gunman, who at the time was holding an unidentified hostage by the neck.

In case no one noticed, Dimebag was killed on the anniversary of John Lennons shooting death. Freaky coincidence, Dimebag is shot by a crazy man claiming he broke up Pantera, John Lennon was shot by a crazy man claiming he broke up the Beatles. Advice to musicians: don't leave your band if you want to live.
